Dear diary,
Today is my first time to start blogging.I have been teaching for Ummm, let me see, seven years now and i have always wanted to speak out share how I feel with other teachers.I also believe in the importance of keeping a record of my own lessons, daily class incidents and maybe just ,maybe relax and reflect on how horrible i was today or sometimes awesome, not saying that this is always the case, if you know what I mean.
Let us consider today for example, am i satisfied on how my class went?the answer is No.Why?well,Flashback few hours ago,I was teaching a class named Earth,This is a class where I teach grammar and PET only.A class i always complain about how lazy and uncooperative. But truly Is it their problem that I couldn't spare a moment to research and see different ways of engaging students!
I am still stuck in that zone of conditionality and hastiness.Being the impulsive person that I am I tend to act then think. Not a very good quality of a teacher,I KNOW.I mean i started the lesson well.Using the readogloss was not such a bad idea after all.but then I used a ppt to explain the difference between the present perfect simple and the preset perfect progressive that I thought was well organized and self explanatory but BORING!!
I ended the session also arguing with a student against a rule that I insisted upon applying.see, the thing is I have this thought that if a teacher establishes ground rules then s/he will manage s/he class better. The rule then is to summarize a chapter from a novel if any of the students used Arabic in
class.when that student for the hundred time came up with an excuse as to why couldn't he speak about tat chapter .I lost my temper and told him you have lost marks already never bother.Yeah he came after that to negotiate and to get his marks back and I said"Well, if you want te marks back then read half the novel and come show some understanding."
Ok.I have to go know!! Good start dear diary!Way to go Fatima
